FAO – Climate Change in the Tropical Fruit Industry

Summary
Climate change is challenging the global food production systems, particularly affecting the tropical fruit sector. The Responsible Fruits Project has developed a technical guide for the pineapple export industry to help producers and exporters understand and adapt to climate change impacts. The guide provides information on current and predicted climate change effects, identifies risks and impacts on pineapple production and trade, offers adaptation practices and recommendations, shares good practices adopted by companies, and identifies gaps in information and research needed for strengthening adaptation practices. The goal is to ensure the long-term sustainability of pineapple production and trade in the face of climate change challenges such as rising temperatures, extreme weather events, water stress, and increased pests and diseases.
