In September 2025, China imposed preliminary anti-dumping duties on imports of rapeseed from Canada, leading to a search for alternative supply sources. India became the largest supplier of rapeseed meal to China after the duties were imposed, as domestic consumption of rapeseed meal in India decreased. It is expected that China's import of rapeseed meal in 2025/26 will be 2.6 million tons, which is 400,000 tons more than the previous estimate, but still the lowest in three years. Duties on Canadian rapeseed may reduce overall rapeseed imports to China as the number of available suppliers is limited. Australia is negotiating with China to restore market access.
