WEF & BCG β Food Innovation, 2024
Summary
The food system is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and water use, while food insecurity is increasing globally.
Innovations in the food system have the potential to address these challenges, but many innovations are not being adopted at scale. This paper presents a roadmap for stakeholders to mainstream food innovations through collaboration within ecosystems. Barriers to scaling food innovation include high production costs, regulatory challenges, and inconsistent demand. It is essential for stakeholders such as the private sector, governments, NGOs, farmers, and financial institutions to play a role in unleashing the potential of transforming food systems. By working together to source, shape, and scale innovations, partners can create ecosystems that facilitate the adoption of food innovations. Urgent action and collaboration are needed to address the challenges facing global food systems.
