Summary
Boston Consulting Group's "The AI Maturity Matrix, Nov 2024" offers a comprehensive assessment of 73 global economies, evaluating their exposure to AI-driven changes and readiness to manage AI-induced disruptions.
The report identifies six sectors most susceptible to AI transformation: information and communication, high-tech goods, retail, financial services, public services, and motor vehicle manufacturing. Economies with a significant presence in these sectors, such as Luxembourg, Hong Kong, and Singapore, are deemed highly exposed to AI impacts. Conversely, countries like Indonesia, India, and Ethiopia, with substantial agriculture and construction sectors, exhibit lower exposure levels. The study employs the ASPIRE index to measure AI readiness across six dimensions: Ambition, Skills, Policy and regulation, Investment, Research and innovation, and Ecosystem. Findings reveal that over 70% of the assessed economies score below average in critical areas like ecosystem participation, skills, and research and development. Only five economies—Canada, Mainland China, Singapore, the UK, and the US—are categorized as AI pioneers, demonstrating high readiness levels. The report underscores the necessity for policymakers to implement strategic initiatives tailored to their economy's AI maturity level to harness AI's potential effectively.
