WEF – Data Equity Generative AI, 2023

This briefing paper discusses the concept of data equity in relation to Generative AI (genAI) and its impact on society. It highlights the potential benefits of genAI, such as increased efficiency, creativity, and accessibility to technology. However, it also emphasizes the need to address the potential for genAI to deepen existing social inequalities if not carefully managed. The paper outlines three key objectives. Secondly, it seeks to identify and address initial concerns surrounding data equity in genAI, in order to develop a framework for further exploration and analysis. Lastly, the paper aims to shape the future development of genAI technologies by providing recommendations and guidelines. This paper serves as an initial exploration into the promotion of data equity in genAI. It offers proposed definitions, a framework, and recommendations that aim to proactively guide the development of genAI technologies. This is seen as a crucial step given the rapidly increasing deployment and development of genAI, emphasizing the urgency of addressing data equity concerns.
