CEFIC – European Chemical Industry, 2023

Cefic has released the 2023 editions of "Facts And Figures Of The European Chemical Industry" and updated the "Landscape of the European Chemical Industry" based on data from 2021. These publications highlight the European chemical sector's significant role in Europe and globally. With 2021 sales reaching 594 billion EUR, Europe is the second largest producer of chemicals in the world. The sector employs over 1.2 million people and invested 9.9 billion EUR in Research & Innovation in 2021. As the sector transitions towards a more sustainable future, billions in additional investments will be needed by 2050. The sector is facing its largest transformation yet, focusing on producing items in a more sustainable manner while maintaining global competitiveness. With chemicals being crucial in over 90% of manufactured goods, understanding the sector's current position, history, and future trajectory is more important than ever.
