EC – The Blue Economy Report, 2023

The European Commission (EC) has released the sixth edition of the EU Blue Economy Report, which aims to analyze and provide support for the sustainable development of oceans, coastal resources, and the implementation of policies under the European Green Deal. The report also seeks to inspire investors through its economic evidence. This edition focuses on analyzing data, trends, and drivers of established sectors in the Blue Economy, as well as Blue Biotechnology and Ocean Energy. Additionally, it includes a brief analysis of the impacts of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on some Blue Economy sectors. The report also examines the energy transition in the Blue Economy, assessing greenhouse gas emissions and considering different species, fishing techniques, and production phases. Lastly, it analyzes the impacts of climate change on coastal areas, summarizing findings related to coastal flood impacts, adaptation, and ecosystem services along the European Union's coastline.
