FAO – Monthly Price Update Oilseeds, Oils and Meals, Feb 2025
Summary
The main theme of the report is the analysis of international prices for oilseeds, oils, and meals as reflected in the FAO price indices.
In January 2025, the FAO price indices for oilseeds and meals increased by 1.7 and 1.1 points respectively, while the vegetable oil price index decreased by 9.1 points. The rise in the oilseed index was mainly driven by higher soybean quotations, despite declines in rapeseed prices and stable sunflower prices. In South America, weather conditions related to the La Niña phenomenon affected soybean production prospects in Argentina and Brazil. In the US, revised soybean production data temporarily supported its prices. Rapeseed prices fell due to demand uncertainty in the US biofuel sector, while sunflower prices remained stable but significantly above last year's level.
