The Global Gas Outlook for 2050 predicts a 20% increase in global energy demand, with natural gas playing a significant role by raising its share to almost 26%.
Renewables are also expected to see a surge in their share, reaching over 17% by 2050. Global natural gas demand is projected to rise by 34%, reaching 5,360 bcm by 2050. LNG trade is expected to double, reaching 805 Mt by 2050, dominating the global gas trade. Europe will continue to rely on natural gas for energy security, with net imports standing at around 200 bcm by 2050. The SES pathway is seen as promising, with a higher share of gas in the energy mix by 2050, leading to a 42% decline in energy-related emissions compared to 2022 levels.
