This report focuses on the challenges and policy suggestions for accelerating the deployment of renewable energy in the ASEAN region.
It highlights that eight of the 11 ASEAN member states have adopted net zero emissions targets and that national energy plans indicate substantially higher ambitions for renewable capacity. Achieving these goals requires timely, sustained, and strongly coordinated policy action. The report examines key challenges hindering faster renewable power capacity deployment, outlines potential policy solutions informed by successful international experience, and assesses renewable-energy auction design options, a procurement mechanism expected to account for around 60% of global capacity growth by 2030 and already used in several ASEAN countries.
