The main theme of the report is the assessment of greenhouse gas emissions associated with the extraction, processing, and transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The report highlights that emissions related to these processes amount to about 12 grams of CO2-equivalent per megajoule, which accounts for 15% of the full life cycle emissions of natural gas. It is also noted that emissions from LNG are higher than from natural gas produced and consumed close to each other due to the high energy costs of liquefaction and long-distance transportation.
