IEA – Delivering Sustainable Fuels: Pathways to 2035

The main theme of the report is to explore pathways for accelerating the adoption of sustainable fuels such as liquid biofuels, biogases, low-emission hydrogen, and hydrogen-containing fuels in the global energy sector.

Key findings include the need to increase the use of sustainable liquid and gaseous fuels, which could nearly double by 2030 and quadruple by 2035 with the full implementation of current and proposed policies. Sustainable fuels are important for sectors that continue to rely on fuel solutions, such as aviation, shipping, and certain parts of road transport and industry. The report emphasizes the need for a global vision of sustainable fuels, targeted policies to bridge the cost gap with traditional fuels, innovations to expand production capacity, robust carbon accounting methods, long-term infrastructure investments, and more accessible financing, especially in developing countries.
