IEA - Renewable Hydrogen from Oman

This report provides valuable insights into Oman's transition towards a producer economy, with a focus on renewable hydrogen. The report highlights Oman's potential to become a major producer and exporter of renewable hydrogen due to its abundant renewable energy resources, strategic location, and existing infrastructure. The International Energy Agency (IEA) has identified three policy objectives to be considered in parallel: lay the groundwork for renewable hydrogen exports, accelerate renewable electricity deployment, and stimulate domestic renewable hydrogen demand for industry. The report provides characteristics of policy design and action to help scale both international and domestic demand for renewable hydrogen, as well as general best practices for renewable electricity development. The market for renewable hydrogen trade is nascent, but there are actions that governments can take today to reduce barriers and facilitate trade. The report was produced with the support of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) under the IEA’s Clean Energy Transitions Programme, and includes contributions from various experts and IEA colleagues. Overall, the report provides a comprehensive overview of Oman's potential to become a major player in the renewable hydrogen market, and offers valuable insights into policy design and action to help achieve this goal.
