IEA β The breakthrough agenda report, 2024
Summary
The International Energy Agency (IEA) plays a key role in global energy discussions by offering analysis, data, and policy recommendations for secure and sustainable energy.
The agency addresses various energy issues such as renewables, oil, gas, and coal supply and demand, energy efficiency, clean energy technologies, and more. The IEA has welcomed major emerging economies since 2015 to expand its influence and cooperation globally. The UN Climate Change High-Level Champions work to encourage non-state actors to take ambitious climate actions in line with the Paris Agreement. They aim to create a collaborative shift towards a decarbonized economy for a healthier and zero-carbon world. The Climate Champions Team is the operational arm of the UN Climate Change High-Level Champions. The Breakthrough Agenda, initiated at COP 26, is now an annual collaborative effort involving over 59 countries and 150 initiatives to support clean technologies and sustainable practices. The report outlines goals to make advancements in various sectors by 2030 and establish an annual cycle to track progress and identify areas needing coordinated international action to accelerate transitions. The ultimate goal is to make these transitions faster, cheaper, and easier for all involved.
