IRENA – RE Capacity Statistics, 2024

IRENA's Renewable capacity statistics for 2024 showcase the significant progress made in the global energy transition, with renewables accounting for 43% of installed power capacity by the end of 2023. The year saw a record increase of 473 GW in renewable energy capacity, with solar and wind power leading the way. However, despite these achievements, more needs to be done to establish renewables as the primary source of electricity generation and to meet the goal of tripling installed renewable power capacity by 2030. The world must now add 1,050 GW of renewable energy each year to stay on track for a 1.5°C pathway. Moving forward, it is crucial for the world to accelerate the growth of renewable power plants and distributed electricity generation to ensure a just, inclusive, and sustainable future for all. This report serves as a valuable tool to track progress and highlight the challenges that lie ahead.
