KAPSARC – Advancing Plastic Waste Recycling in the GCC

Plastic is an essential part of the modern economy, but its mismanagement causes environmental issues.

The report focuses on the challenges and opportunities for plastic waste recycling in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Global plastic production has increased significantly, but only about 9% of plastic waste is recycled. GCC countries are major producers and consumers of plastic, but the recycling rate remains low (around 10%). There is significant potential for improving plastic recycling in the region.
