RFA β US Ethanol Trade, 2023
Summary
The Renewable Fuels Association has released a new report showing that the U.S. ethanol industry's exports reached a record value of over $7.1 billion in 2023.
Ethanol export volumes were also strong at 1.43 billion gallons, the third-highest level on record. Additionally, distillers grains shipments were slightly down from 2022 at 10.8 million metric tons. These annual trade summaries provided by RFA offer the latest data and analysis on the importance of U.S. ethanol and distillers grains in the global market. RFA President and CEO Geoff Cooper emphasized the value of exports for U.S. ethanol producers and farmers, highlighting the positive impact on the trade balance and farm incomes. The report shows that U.S. ethanol exports saw a 9 percent increase in volume and record high value in 2023. The top markets for U.S. ethanol included Canada, the United Kingdom, European Union, South Korea, India, and Colombia. The U.S. remained a net exporter for the 14th consecutive year, with the lowest import levels in over a decade. Furthermore, distillers grains exports totaled 10.81 million metric tons, with Mexico, South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Turkey, and Morocco being key export markets. Attendees at the National Ethanol Conference in San Diego, Calif., will receive printed copies of these reports.
