WindEurope β Stats and Outlook report autumn, 2024
Summary
In the first half of 2024, Europe added 6.4 GW of new wind energy capacity, with the EU-27 adding 5.7 GW. Germany, France, and Spain led the installations, accounting for 60% of Europe's total.
Despite only reaching 30% of the anticipated new capacity, the outlook for 2024 has been revised to account for delays, such as those at the Dogger Bank A offshore wind farm in the UK. Onshore wind installations in H1 2024 reached 5.3 GW, with Germany leading the way with over 1.3 GW. Spain and France also saw significant installations in the onshore sector, exceeding their 2023 figures. Sweden, operating in a merchant market, installed 536 MW but fell short compared to the previous year's installations. Delays in installations were attributed to various factors such as road closures impacting the transportation of turbine components. Despite challenges, countries are expected to make up for lost time in the second half of the year.
