The report focuses on the assessment of major NASA projects, including efforts to explore the solar system, develop aerospace technologies, and return US astronauts to the Moon under the Artemis missions.
Performance in cost and schedule for 18 major NASA projects in development remained largely unchanged over the past year. Four projects experienced annual cost growth, collectively exceeding $500 million. The Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle program accounted for more than $360 million of the total cost growth. Of the 53 major projects that completed development or are in the final stages, 30 avoided significant cost overruns. The Artemis projects account for a significant portion of the overruns, with three projects responsible for nearly $7 billion of the total overruns.
