IRENA – Climate action Members NDC, 2024

IRENA conducted a survey among its Members in 2023 to gather insights on the upcoming Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to the UNFCCC, with a focus on the energy sector. The survey, conducted from June to October 2023, received responses from 51 Members, representing various regions and small island developing states. The survey aimed to identify countries' plans, challenges, and support needs regarding the enhancement and implementation of their energy sector NDCs. The report provides an overview of the NDC process, highlighting the need for countries to align their targets with the global goal of tripling renewables by 2030. The survey results shed light on the climate action support needs of countries in the coming years, emphasizing the importance of developing long-term low emissions development strategies. Member countries shared their perspectives on challenges, priorities, and opportunities for NDC enhancement and implementation, with the ultimate goal of staying on track to meet the 1.5 degrees Celsius pathway by 2050.
