PWC β Qatar Economy Watch, 2024
Summary
Since the discovery of oil in the Dukhan Fields in 1940, Qatar has become a major player in the global energy market, particularly as a leading exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The wealth generated from this has allowed Qatar to implement its national vision, QNV 2030. The government is currently focusing on diversification and sustainability through the NDS-32 plan, which spans from 2024 to 2030. Qatar is actively seeking international investments to grow its private sector and exploring emerging industries such as technology, clean energy, manufacturing, tourism, and sports. This strategic transformation reflects Qatar's commitment to economic resilience and innovation in the face of global challenges. This edition of the Qatar Economy Watch examines the country's macroeconomic landscape and discusses key sectoral plays, including clean energy, logistics, tourism, sports, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) - all areas that can drive economic growth, diversification, increase foreign direct investment (FDI), localize industries, and enhance private sector participation.
