WEF β The Global Risks Report, 2024
Summary
The Global Risks Perception Survey (GRPS) is a key component of the Global Risks Report by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
It is a source of original global risks data and has been conducted for almost twenty years. The GRPS for the 2023-2024 period gathered insights from 1,490 experts in various fields, including academia, business, government, the international community, and civil society. Responses were collected from September to October 2023. The GRPS defines "global risk" as an event or condition that, if it occurs, would negatively impact a significant portion of global GDP, population, or natural resources. The report includes definitions for each of the 34 global risks. The survey consists of several components. The risk landscape section asks respondents to assess the likely impact of global risks over different time horizons and identify areas of concern. The consequences section prompts respondents to consider the potential impacts of a risk and the potential for compounding crises. The risk governance section asks about approaches that can drive action on risk reduction and preparedness. The outlook section seeks predictions on the evolution of key aspects of the global risks landscape. In addition to the GRPS, the report also considers data from the World Economic Forum's Executive Opinion Survey (EOS), which identifies risks posing severe threats to each country based on responses from over 11,000 business leaders. This data provides insight into local concerns and potential regional manifestations of global risks. The report incorporates the views of leading experts and qualitative insights gathered through community meetings, interviews, and workshops. Contributions were received from colleagues, experts, and various WEF platforms. Overall, the Global Risks Report provides a comprehensive analysis of global risks based on the GRPS and other data sources, aiming to generate foresight and support decision-making.
