Lucidity – HealthTech in MENA, 2023

Summary
Healthtech, the convergence of technology and healthcare, is offering hope for improved healthcare delivery and better medical outcomes. This emerging field is driven by the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and other innovative products and solutions that aim to raise efficiency, improve diagnostics, and provide personalized and patient-centric care. Healthtech breakthroughs have already shown the ability to overcome industry challenges and improve access to healthcare services globally. The demand for healthtech innovations is expected to continue growing as healthcare challenges increase and middle- and old-aged populations and socioeconomic budgets evolve. Factors such as climate change pose threats to healthcare systems and create a need for innovative solutions. To support the healthtech movement, it is crucial for public- and private-sector efforts to align and empower start-ups and entrepreneurs. Nurturing entrepreneurial creativity and ambition through guidance, mentorship, and investment is essential to redefine and revolutionize the future of meaningful medicine. In June 2023, in5 and Dubai Science Park launched the in5 Science vertical, an incubator and ecosystem that supports homegrown and international founders in industries like healthcare and advanced manufacturing. This initiative is aligned with strategic priorities outlined by Dubai's Economic Agenda, Dubai Research and Development Programme, and We the UAE 2031. Several healthtech innovators and disruptors are part of this ecosystem, including RelphaCare Technologies and Detectiome. These companies have developed platforms and tests that enable real-time communication and monitoring by doctors and family, as well as AI-powered multi-cancer early detection tests designed for the Middle Eastern population. Overall, healthtech has the potential to transform traditional healthcare models and services into more proactive, preventive, and patient-centric approaches. These successes demonstrate the life-changing promise of healthtech innovation and the potential for tangible solutions to solve complex global problems.
