The UK venture capital investment is on the rise heading into 2024, with UK startups raising $21.3 billion in 2023, the third highest total on record. VC investment has been growing since the second half of 2023, with a 46% increase compared to the first half of the year. The hottest segments in the UK startup ecosystem are AI and Climate tech. Climate tech accounted for 29% of all UK VC investment in 2023, reaching $6.2 billion, a 40% year-on-year growth. Startups utilizing AI also raised significant investment, including rounds for companies like Synthesia, AutogenAI, and Stability AI. UK-based venture capital investors have raised over $25 billion in the last three years, making the UK the center of the European venture market, with London as the European base for top international funds. Additionally, 2023 saw a few tests of the IPO window for global tech startups, and 2024 could potentially see the return of the UK tech IPO with a list of late-stage startups ready to debut.
