The World Bank is launching a project to create a new dataset on building energy codes and standards in 191 cities worldwide. The project aims to collect quantitative and comparable measures on energy codes for new and existing buildings, as well as their enforcement mechanisms and compliance levels. It will address the lack of standardized cross-country data on these topics and provide a benchmarking tool for evaluating regulatory frameworks that reduce carbon emissions and transform the construction industry. The dataset will cover variables such as passive design requirements, insulation parameters, and the thermal efficiency of building systems. It will also include information on enforcement approaches, enforcement authorities, and compliance levels. The project will be implemented by the World Bank's Development Economics Indicators Group and will involve surveys of experts in the field.
