IEA – Future of Heat Pumps in China

However, the use of heat pumps, particularly for low- and medium-temperature heating, offers a promising solution for decarbonization. Heat pump sales in China have been increasing, with the country being the largest market for heat pumps for buildings. Despite high upfront costs, heat pumps offer long-term savings and are more energy efficient compared to traditional heating solutions. The use of heat pumps for domestic hot water production is emerging in urban areas and commercial buildings. Overall, the adoption of heat pumps in China has the potential to significantly reduce energy consumption and emissions from heating.
