The document presents an analysis of CO2 utilization in ethanol production, examining two cases: the use of biogenic CO2 from sugar fermentation in Brazil and the use of industrial gas emissions from the steel industry in China for bioethanol production. In the first case, the environmental and economic feasibility of BECCUS technologies in sugarcane biorefining is explored, showing the potential for ethanol production with negative CO2 emissions. The gas-bioethanol (BECCU) process faces economic challenges due to high energy costs for hydrogen production but contributes to ethanol emission reductions. In the second case, the costs and environmental benefits of using steel industry gases for ethanol production are evaluated, comparing two technological schemes.
