WEF & CLTC – Cybersecurity Futures, 2030

The report presents the findings of the Cybersecurity Futures 2030 research initiative, which explored the potential evolution of digital security over the next five to seven years. The aim of the project is to shape a future-focused research and policy agenda applicable across countries and industries. The findings are based on discussions held at workshops in Dubai, Washington DC, Kigali, New Delhi, Singapore, and a virtual workshop with participants from Europe and the UK. The workshops focused on four fictional scenarios depicting the cybersecurity landscape in 2030. Key findings highlight the importance of innovation in technology and business models, the need for trust in cybersecurity efforts, and the importance of stable governments in countering cyberattacks and disinformation campaigns. Public-private partnerships will be crucial in combating cyber threats, and emerging countries have the opportunity to implement secure digitalization practices. Investment in cybersecurity talent and training is critical, and decision-makers need to balance technology interdependencies and self-sufficiency. The report advises organizations to ensure a secure supply chain, establish clear digital policies, and cultivate a digitally literate public. Additionally, leaders should use regulation to address the downsides of AI and combat misinformation. The report recommends the formation and strengthening of trusted research institutions to address cybersecurity challenges in less-developed economies. The next phase of the project will involve working with decision-makers to develop additional priorities and consider the implications of the report's findings.
