Eurocontrol β EUROCONTROL Aviation Long-Term Outlook
Summary
The EUROCONTROL Aviation Long-Term Outlook to 2050, the 9th of its kind, provides a comprehensive forecast of flights and CO2 emissions in Europe up to the target year of 2050.
This report serves as critical input for the European Aviation Environmental Report, due in 2025, as well as the State Action Plans aligned with the 42nd Session of the ICAO Assembly. According to the most likely scenario, Europe is projected to see 15.4 million flights by 2050, a 52% increase from 2023 with an average annual growth rate of 1.6%. High and low scenarios of 18 million and 12.2 million flights are also presented. Despite the setback caused by COVID-19, significant growth is still forecasted, potentially leading to a capacity gap at key airports.
