KAPSARC – Assessing CO2 Emissions from Commercial Aviation in Saudi Arabia

Aviation is set to grow in the coming decades and, despite efficiency improvements in aircraft and engines, rising demand has led to an absolute increase in fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). With other sectors decarbonizing, aviation’s relative impact on climate change may soon surpass other transport modes. This paper presents a framework that utilizes an open-source aircraft performance model to assess operational measures and generate insights into aviation decarbonization in Saudi Arabia.
