WEF β Travel & Tourism Development Index, 2024
Summary
The Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI) 2024 is a collaborative effort between the World Economic Forum and the University of Surrey to measure factors and policies facilitating sustainable travel and tourism development.
Despite the sector's post-pandemic growth, challenges remain, including varying recovery rates across regions and ongoing external challenges. The TTDI aims to provide insights for policymakers and stakeholders, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement in the global travel and tourism industry. The 2024 edition includes enhancements using newly available data to make the index more concise and specific to the industry. High-income economies in Europe and Asia-Pacific continue to have favorable conditions for travel and tourism development, with the top 30 TTDI scorers leading in industry GDP. Developing economies are also improving their enabling conditions, though more efforts are needed to bridge the sector-enabling gap. The TTDI results show a rebound in global travel demand, but challenges such as labor shortages and supply-demand imbalances persist, impacting price competitiveness and service availability. Stakeholders are encouraged to utilize the TTDI insights for strategic decision-making and investment strategies in the dynamic travel and tourism sector.
