Gartner – HR Priorities, 2024

Gartner conducted a survey to determine the top priorities for HR in 2024. They surveyed over 500 HR leaders from 40 countries and various industries. The results revealed several key trends and challenges. Leader and manager development ranked as the top priority, followed closely by organizational culture, HR technology, change management, and career management and internal mobility. The survey also highlighted several concerning issues. Only 26% of organizations reported that their employees fully complied with on-site attendance requirements. Additionally, nearly 50% of employees believed that their current performance was not sustainable. Only around 50% of employees expressed trust in their organization. CEOs identified the talent shortage as the top damaging factor to business outlook, with 26% ranking it as such. The impact of AI on organizations and the workforce was another significant trend mentioned in the survey. 68% of executives agreed that the benefits of AI outweighed the risks. However, only 22% of HR leaders were highly engaged in enterprisewide discussions on GenAI. Operational efficiency and productivity were highlighted as important drivers of profitability for executives and investors/owners. The survey also mentioned an unsettled employee-employer relationship that CHROs are currently grappling with. Overall, the survey provided insights into the key priorities and concerns for HR in 2024, including leadership development, organizational culture, AI, talent shortage, and operational efficiency.
