LinkedIn - Skills First Labour Market Europe 2023

This report is focused on the benefits of adopting a skills-first approach to the labour market. The report argues that this approach can have significant benefits for both policymakers and businesses. The report is based on insights from 49 countries, including Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, and many others. However, there were six countries where gender insights could not be reported due to lack of representative data. The report includes comparisons of educational attainment between bachelor's and non-bachelor's holders in Spain, Germany, and Denmark. In other countries, comparisons are made between members who do not have bachelor's degrees or equivalent and those who do. The value of learning and skills development is increasingly recognized by individuals and organizations. This shift towards prioritizing skills is already underway. While there may be challenges, there is already evidence of employers embracing this new way of thinking about talent. Embracing a skills-first approach requires a fundamentally different way of analyzing, managing, and allocating human capital. These are the main takeaways from the report.
