WEF – Agritech for Women Farmers: A Business Case for Inclusive Growth

Women farmers play a crucial role in global agriculture, contributing significantly to the labor force and food production in developing countries. However, they face numerous challenges that limit their full participation and potential in the industry, including time constraints, social norms, and limited access to resources. While agritech has the potential to revolutionize agricultural systems and bring macro gains, most solutions do not address the unique needs of women farmers, excluding them as key customers and limiting their contribution at the farm level. Gender inclusivity in agritech not only benefits women farmers but also enhances a company’s brand reputation, customer loyalty, and market competitiveness. This report by WEF aims to provide recommendations to address systemic barriers faced by women farmers and encourages agritech companies to innovate on the “5Ps” – product, price, promotion, place, and people – to better serve women farmers. It emphasizes the importance of multistakeholder collaboration to drive investments into gender-inclusive agritech and create an enabling ecosystem for women farmers to benefit from advancements in the sector.
