Eurostat – European Food Chain, 2023

Eurostat has released a publication titled "European Food Chain, 2023" that delves into three key areas.  The first section provides an overview of agriculture and fisheries, focusing on the production of agricultural and fishery products. It also includes information about farms, the fishing fleet, employment in these activities, and key economic data. The second section explores the downstream activities of the food chain, which involve the processing, trade, distribution, and consumption of food and beverages. This section highlights the complexity of the food chain and the various steps involved in bringing products from farms to consumers. The final section addresses environmental issues related to the food chain, particularly the generation of food waste. It discusses the impact of the food chain on the environment and explores ways in which waste can be reduced or managed more effectively. The publication includes datasets presented in intuitive visualizations, with most data covering the years up to 2021 or 2022.
