Guatemala's sugar exports are expected to decrease by 2% in 2024/25 due to lower production caused by El Niño and national policy prioritizing domestic consumption. Sugar production is forecast to decrease by 4%, while consumption is expected to increase by 1.2%. Domestic consumption in Guatemala is on the rise, with food and beverage manufacturing industries driving the trend. Global sugar production is projected to increase, with lower production in Brazil offset by higher production in other countries such as Thailand, India, China, and Mexico. Consumption is also expected to reach a new high, particularly in markets like India and Pakistan. Export forecasts are lower due to reduced shipments from key producers, and stocks are expected to decrease globally, with Thailand's reduced stocks outweighing an increase in India's stocks.
