The Global Energy Review 2025 analyzes trends in the energy sector for 2024, covering all fuels and technologies, regions, and major countries, as well as energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
In 2024, global energy demand grew faster than average, leading to increased demand for all energy sources, including oil, natural gas, coal, renewables, and nuclear energy. The growth was primarily driven by the power sector, where electricity demand increased almost twice as fast as overall energy demand. Nearly all the growth in electricity demand was met by low-emission sources, including record expansion of solar photovoltaic energy. CO2 emissions in the energy sector continued to rise but at a slower pace than in 2023, thanks to the rapid deployment of clean energy technologies.
