GSMA - State of the Industry Report on Mobile Money 2022

The GSMA has released its State of the Industry Report on Mobile Money 2022, highlighting the potential of mobile money to provide financial inclusion. The report points out that, during the pandemic, mobile money has played a crucial role in offering individuals easy and safe access to essential goods and services that were at risk of interruption. In 2021, over $1tn of mobile money transactions were processed, with financial services becoming accessible to those without a traditional bank account. However, the report also recognizes that the success of mobile money should be determined by its ability to build financial resilience, stability and affordability for its users. Additionally, the report emphasizes that to aid economic recovery and drive financial inclusion, everyone must have equal access to mobile money tools.
