Summary
Adevinta's Marketplaces H1 2022 report states that marketplace funding has decreased significantly but is still higher than pre-pandemic levels. In H1 2022, marketplaces raised $46B, a decline of 31% compared to the record breaking H1 2021, but still higher than what was seen before 2021. Marketplaces have experienced a steeper decline in funding than the VC market as a whole and have only outperformed markets such as Education and Transportation. Fintech marketplaces have received the most investment, with $10.8B in H1 2022, followed by food marketplaces. The highest-funded sub-industries are Food Delivery, Logistics, and Crypto & DeFi. Low-value marketplace exits have climbed to almost an all-time high, with a significant decrease in the combined value of market exits. Unicorn creation was only 30% in a YoY comparison as funding conditions in the market suffer pressure.
