GII 2024 – Clusters Top 100 Ranking

The Global Innovation Index (GII) ranks countries based on their innovation capabilities, with a focus on science and technology (S&T) clusters. These clusters, such as Silicon Valley and Shanghai-Suzhou, are key to national innovation ecosystems and are home to universities, scientists, and R&D companies. The GII 2024 highlights the top 100 S&T clusters globally, with Tokyo-Yokohama and Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou leading the pack. Beijing, Seoul, and Shanghai-Suzhou follow closely behind. The rankings also feature new entrants like Nanchang, Cairo, Kunming, and Macao-Zhuhai, each showing growth in scientific output. Kuala Lumpur makes its debut in the top 100, with MIMOS leading in patents and Universiti Malaya in research publications.
