Summary
The World Economic Forum, in partnership with Scientific American, has released its 10th edition of the Top 10 Emerging Technologies. The report highlights interlinked solutions to some of the world's grand challenges, including climate change, energy reduction, food production, and global health. The report focuses on low-emissions transportation, residential and commercial infrastructure, and industrial processes, among other areas. Two technologies, the production of "green" ammonia and engineered crops that make their own fertilizer, will improve agricultural sustainability. The report also highlights breath sensors that can detect COVID-19 and other diseases, wireless biomarker monitors for chronic illnesses, and genomics that allow for the engineering of longer "healthspans." The report predicts increased connectivity through the use of orbiting nanosatellites and energy from wireless signals.
