ACEA – Vehicles on European Roads, Jan 2026

The main theme of the report is to provide up-to-date information on the number of vehicles circulating on European roads, including the average age of vehicles, types of energy sources, and vehicle ownership models.

Key findings include the fact that despite the growing popularity of electric vehicles, they still make up only a small portion of the total passenger cars on EU roads. There is a significant gap between the number of new electric vehicle registrations and the actual structure of the vehicle fleet on European roads. The average age of cars and vans is increasing, and the total number of vehicles on the roads continues to grow. There is a need to accelerate the replacement of older vehicles with cleaner and safer models.
